单词 abugida
释义

abugidan.

Brit. /ˌabʊˈɡiːdə/, U.S. /ˌɑbuˈɡidə/
Origin: A borrowing from Ge’ez. Etymon: Ge’ez ’abugidā.
Etymology: < Ge’ez ’abugidā, denoting the order of consonants in the Ge'ez script < the values of the first four consonants of the script (called respectively 'alf, bet, gäml, and dänt) when they are arranged in the order of the Semitic alphabets + the first four vowels in the language, arranged in traditional order: ä, u, i, and a.In the Ge'ez script (which, with some modifications, is also used for Amharic and Tigrinya), each letter has seven different shapes called ‘orders’, which vary according to the vowel following the base consonant denoted by the letter; for example, the different vowels may be expressed by small strokes appended to the main character. In their traditional sequence, the ‘orders’ are ä , i , u , a , e , ɨ (schwa), and o . The letters in their orders are traditionally arranged in a grid, with the base consonants given in the rows and the vowels in the columns of the grid. Sense 2 shows an extended use of sense 1 and was introduced by Peter T. Daniels (see quot. 1990).

1990 P. T. Daniels in Jrnl. Amer. Oriental Soc. 110 730/2 I would propose..calling this type [of script] an ‘abugida’, from the Ethiopian word for the auxiliary order of consonants.
1996 P. T. Daniels in P. T. Daniels & W. Bright World's Writing Syst. ii. 27 The abugida really is more appropriate to Ethiopic languages than an alphabet would be, since the spelling ensures that each root looks the same through its plethora of inflections and derivations.
2016 R. Helms-Park et al. in X. Chen et al. Reading in Second Lang. i. 11 Presently, there are four geographic areas where abugidas are widespread: the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Ethiopia and Eritrea, and Canada.
