Etymology: < Afrikaans Koevoet, specific use of koevoet crowbar < Dutch koevoet (1588 in this sense; already in Middle Dutch denoting the foot of a cow) < koe cow n.¹ + voet foot n.Compare the following earlier, apparently isolated example of a borrowing of the Afrikaans word in the sense ‘crowbar’:1980 in Dict.
