Etymology: < the name of Kirmanshah, a city in west Iran.

Used confusedly (frequently attributively) to designate a carpet made in Kirman, usually one with white field and flowered medallion and borders. See Kirman n.The confusion with Kirman seems to have arisen because of the similarity of the two names and the great importance of Kirmanshah as a wool-trading town.
