Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French Labadisme.
Etymology: < French Labadisme (1732 or earlier; now hist.) < the name of Jean de Labadie (see Labadist n.) + -isme -ism suffix. Compare earlier Labadist n.Compare post-classical Latin Labadismus (1681 or earlier).
Christian Church. Chiefly historical.
The doctrine or practice of the Labadists, a communistic Protestant sect holding pietist views founded by the French mystic Jean de Labadie (1610–74).Labadism died out before the 1730s.
