Etymology: < German Kindertransport (1939 or earlier with allusion to the operation of 1938–40; 1800 or earlier in general sense ‘transportation of children’) < Kinder , plural of Kind child (see child n.) + Transport transportation (see transport n.).
A transportation made as part of an operation between 1938 and 1940 to evacuate Jewish children from Nazi-controlled areas of Europe to the United Kingdom. Also: this operation as a whole.
