Electronics.
An electron tube for amplifying or generating microwave signals in which a beam of electrons from a thermionic cathode is passed through a gap in a cavity resonator across which is applied a high-frequency voltage, so that the electrons collect into bunches and on reaching a second gap induce a (larger) high-frequency voltage across it.
