1900 V. B. Lewes Acetylene iii. 63 Edmund Davy, in 1836, named the newly-discovered gas bicarburet of hydrogen..; whilst later the name ‘klumene’ was bestowed upon it, because it had been derived from a kalium compound—potassium carbide.
