Origin: A borrowing from Yiddish. Etymons: Yiddish kreplakh, krepl.
Etymology: < Yiddish kreplakh (also kreplekh), plural of krepl < German regional (Central) Kräppel fritter, doughnut, variant (without the High German consonant shift) of Kräpfel (Middle High German (in late sources) kreffel , krepfil , etc.) < krapfe krapfen n. + -el -el suffix1.
Jewish Cookery.
With plural agreement. Dumplings made from thin, usually triangular, sheets of dough filled with chopped meat or cheese and served with soup.
