Origin: A borrowing from Kongo. Etymon: Kongo kikôngo.
Etymology: < Kongo kikôngo, denoting any of a group of closely-related languages, and the group itself < ki- , class prefix denoting a language + -kôngo Kongo n. Compare earlier Kongo n. 2, Congolese n. 2, and Congoese n. 2.Compare also Kongo kisikôngo , denoting one of these languages (incorporating the element -isi- earth, land: see discussion at Kongo adj.).
