Origin: A borrowing from Luganda. Etymon: Luganda kabaka.
Etymology: < Luganda kabaka king, especially as the title of the king of Buganda < ka-, prefix used in personal names and titles + -baka, perhaps related to either (o)mubaka messenger or (o)kubaka to catch in the hand.
The king of Buganda, the largest of the traditional kingdoms of present-day Uganda, and of the Baganda people inhabiting it. Also as a title. Cf. Baganda n.
