Etymology: < justify v. + -er suffix1, probably originally after post-classical Latin justificator justificator n. Compare Middle French, French justifieur person who provides or offers justification or a justification (c1495 in an apparently isolated attestation in a theological context with reference to Christ, subsequently from 1617).With the specific uses in printing in senses 4b and 4c compare French justificateur justificator n. (1723 in these senses).
