单词 kedlock
释义

kedlockn.

/ˈkɛdlək/
Forms: (? Old English cedelc), Middle English ketelok, 1500s kedlok, 1600s– ketlock, 1600s–1700s cadlock, 1800s keblock, kellock, 1500s– kedlock. β. 1500s–1700s chadlock, 1800s chedlock.
Etymology: apparently representing Old English cedelc ‘herb mercury’, of unknown etymology; the difficulties as to form and originally meaning are the same as in the case of the synonymous charlock n. Connection with the synonymous German kettich, Low German köddich, Danish dialect kiddik, has been suggested.
Obsolete exc. dialect.
