Etymology: < the names of T. A. E. Klebs (1834–1913) and F. A. J. Löffler (1852–1915), German bacteriologists.
Used attributively to designate the bacterium ( Corynebacterium diphtheriæ) which is the cause of diphtheria in man and similar diseases in other animals.
