释义

kass-kassn.

Brit. /ˈkʌskʌs/, /ˈkaskas/, U.S. /ˈkəsˌkəs/, /ˈkæsˌkæs/, Caribbean English /ˈkʌsˌkʌs/, /ˈkasˌkas/
Forms: 1800s cuss-cuss, 1900s– kus-kus, 1900s– kas-kas, 1900s– kos-kos, 1900s– kass-kass.
Origin: A borrowing from Twi. Etymon: Twi akasaakasa.
Etymology: < Twi akasaakasa (also with colloquial pronunciation kasaakasa) dispute, quarrel ( < a-, prefix forming nouns + kasakasa to talk repeatedly, reduplication of kasa to speak). The early form cuss-cuss and the pronunciation /ˈkʌskʌs/ suggest folk-etymological association with cuss n. and cuss v.; compare also the following earlier passage, which appears to show a reduplicated use of cuss v., used by a Jamaican character:1838 F. Graeme in New Monthly Mag. Jan. 46 All de day noting but swear, swear, cuss, cuss, from old massa.
