Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin iudicator.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin iudicator person who judges (4th or 5th cent. in Augustine) < classical Latin iūdicāt- , past participial stem of iūdicāre to judge (see judge v.) + -or -or suffix. Compare Middle French judicateur (1488 in an apparently isolated attestation). Compare later adjudicator n., and also the definition note at judicature n. 2.
