单词 kerry-merry-buff
释义

kerry-merry-buffn.

Forms: Also 1500s–1600s kiri(e-)mirie-.
Etymology: apparently of fanciful coinage: the last element is probably buff n.1
Obsolete. rare.
Some kind of blow or buffet; perhaps a loud but not severe blow, such as one given in sport with the hollowed hand. Halliwell's statement that the term denoted ‘a kind of material of which jerkins were formerly sometimes made’ appears to be quite unsupported by evidence.
