Etymology: Originally coined as French kelline (I. Mustapha 1879, in Compt. Rend. LXXXIX. 442), < kell , given as the Arabic name of Ammi visnaga; the h originated with Samaan (1931), who gave the Arabic name as khella : see -in suffix1.
A tricyclic crystalline compound, C14H12O5, obtained from the fruit of the North African umbelliferous plant Ammi visnaga and formerly used in the treatment of angina pectoris. The name was originally given to the glucoside of this compound.
