Etymology: < modern Latin Kaempferia, generic name of the plant ( K. galanga) from which it was first obtained, < the name of Engelbert Kaempfer (1651–1716), German physician and traveller: see -ol suffix.
Chemistry.
A yellow crystalline flavonoid, C15H10O6, that occurs alone and in glycosides in various plants; 3,4′, 5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone.
