Etymology: Origin unknown. Perhaps shortened < jargon n.2 (a variety of the mineral zircon) reflecting its use as a cheap substitute for diamonds.

False, fabricated, or counterfeit; suspicious, misleading. Also: of poor quality, inferior, awful.
