Etymology: < French jocko, erroneously made by Buffon out of engeco, properly ncheko, the name of the chimpanzee in an African language of Gabon, West Africa.
The chimpanzee; sometimes used as a familiar name for any ape (perhaps influenced by Jack or Jackanapes).
