Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: astro- comb. form, virus n.
Etymology: < astro- comb. form + virus n. (see quot. 1975).
Virology.
Any member of the genus Astrovirus or monotypic family Astroviridae of non-enveloped, single-stranded RNA viruses which cause enteritis in humans (esp. children), various other mammals, and birds. Also (in form Astrovirus): the genus itself.
