单词 askile
释义

askileadv.

Forms: Middle English ascoyle, 1500s askile.
Origin: Of uncertain origin.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Alternatively, perhaps related to (or perhaps influenced by association with) askoy adv., which is attested earlier in similar meaning in constructions with verbs of seeing. In quot. 1550 probably part of a scribal or editorial alteration of the text (compare the reading from the Laud manuscript).
Obsolete. rare.
In a disapproving manner; askance.
