Winslow Expos. anat. de la Struct. du Corps Humain (1732) 571/1)), < Latin cavernōsus full of hollows, in corpus cavernosum (see corpus n. 2)] Anatomy either of a pair of small perineal muscles, each of which arises partly from the ischial tuberosity and partly from the ramus of the ischium and is inserted into the crus of the penis (or clitoris) and perhaps helps to maintain erection.
