1. The name of the Greek letter Ι, ι, corresponding to the Roman I, i; the smallest letter of the Greek alphabet. iota subscript (Latin iota subscriptum), a small iota written beneath a long vowel, forming the second element of a diphthong, as in ᾳ, ῃ, ῳ.
