单词 astony
释义

astonyv.

/əˈstɒni/
Forms: Middle English astoney, Middle English astonie, astonye, hestunye, 1500s astunnye, 1500s– astony.
Etymology: A variant of astone v., of difficult explanation; perhaps the ending is due to Old French past participle estoné, estonné. The instance in the Ayenbite may be only the infinitive in -ie of astone: it has present tense aston-eth.
archaic.
1. transitive. = astone v.; to stun, paralyse, astound, amaze.
