Etymology: < the name of Paul Jablochkoff (1847–94), Russian physicist.
Used attributively and in the possessive to denote an electric arc lamp invented by Jablochkoff (now obsolete) in which carbon rod electrodes were placed side by side and separated by an insulating material such as plaster of Paris, which gradually melted as the electrodes burned away.
