irreadj.

Forms: Old English ierre, yrre, iorre, Old English–Middle English irre, eorre, ire, yr(e.
Etymology: Old English, West Saxon ierre, irre, later yrre, Anglian iorre, eorre = Old Saxon irri angry, Old High German irri wandering, deranged, angry (Middle High German and German irre), Gothic airzeis astray, < Old Germanic root *erz-, pre-Germanic *ers-, Latin err- ( < ers-), in errāre to stray, error wandering. The transition to the sense ‘angry’, seen in Old Saxon and Old High German, and completed in Old English, arose from the consideration of anger as a wandering or aberration of the mind.
Obsolete.
1. Gone astray, confused, perverted, depraved. Only in Old English.
