Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ἄρθρον , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἄρθρον joint, (in grammar) the article (see arthro- comb. form and etymological note at article n.) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier anarthrous adj.
Grammar.
Of a Greek noun: used with the article. Opposed to anarthrous.
