Designating unregulated commercial activity which takes place outside the official or mainstream economy, and is carried out on a small scale and on a self-employed, casual, or irregular basis; (also) involved in such activity. Frequently in informal economy, informal sector.Typically used to refer to any form of economic activity which goes unreported in official statistics, including illegal activity.
