Etymology: < arsen- (in arsenic n.) + -o- connective, originally after French arséno- (formations in which are found from the first half of the 19th cent.). Compare post-classical Latin arseno- , German Arseno- (formations in which are found from at least the mid 19th cent.). Compare arsenio- comb. form.Attested earliest in arseno-vinic, an adaptation from French (after French arséno-vinique: F. d'Arcet 1835, in Compt. rend. hebd. de l'Acad. des Sci. 1 441). Formations within English are found from the second half of the 19th cent.
