Etymology: < classical Latin in mediās rēs (Horace Ars Poetica 148) < in in prep. + mediās , accusative plural feminine of medius middle (see medium n.) + rēs , accusative plural of rēs res n.1
Into the middle of proceedings; into the midst of affairs. Frequently with reference to a literary work (esp. in later use): in or into the middle of a narrative.
