Etymology: < classical Latin in antīs (Vitruvius) < in in prep. + antīs , ablative of antae (see anta n.), after ancient Greek ἐν παραστάσι (see parastas n.).

Classical Archaeology.

Of a building (esp. a temple): that has the side walls extending beyond the front, and the pilasters terminating these walls in line with the columns of the façade. Also of a column: belonging to such a formation.
