Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; originally modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: im- prefix2, malleable adj.
Etymology: < im- prefix2 + malleable adj., originally after post-classical Latin immalleabilis (1573 in the passage translated in quot. 1650). Compare earlier unmalleable adj.
Not malleable; (originally) literal incapable of being hammered out or beaten; (in later use also of a person, the mind, etc.) unchangeable, obstinate, unyielding.
