Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin immaculabilis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin immaculabilis incapable of stain (4th cent.) < classical Latin im- im- prefix2 + maculāre maculate v. + -bilis -ble suffix.
Chiefly poetic. Now rare.
Incapable of (moral) stain or defilement. Also: perfect, immaculate.
