Etymology: < (i) Middle French improvidence (a1440; rare before the mid 16th cent.), and its etymon (ii) post-classical Latin improvidentia lack of foresight, rashness (early 3rd cent. in Tertullian) < classical Latin im- im- prefix2 + prōvidentia providence n. Compare Spanish improvidencia (early 15th cent.), Italian improvvidenza (13th cent.).With the α. forms compare in- prefix4.
