单词 imperseverant
释义

imperseverantadj.

Brit. /ɪmˌpəːsᵻˈvɪərnt/, U.S. /ᵻmˌpərsəˈvɪrənt/
Forms: see im- prefix2 and perseverant adj.; also 1600s imperseuerant.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: im- prefix2, perseverant adj.
Etymology: < im- prefix2 + perseverant adj.
archaic and rare after early 17th cent.
Lacking in perseverance; not persistent or steadfast; inconstant. N.E.D. (1899) interpreted quot. a1616 as showing imperceiverant adj., following Dyce's suggested emendation: see quot. 1844 at imperceiverant adj. and discussion at that entry. Most modern editors of Shakespeare retain the First Folio's original form, showing this sense.
