释义

hyssopn.

Brit. /ˈhɪsəp/, U.S. /ˈhɪsəp/
Forms: Old English ( h)ysope, ysopo, Middle English–1600s ysope, Middle English ysoop, Middle English–1500s ysop, Middle English–1600s isope, Middle English–1500s isop(pe, 1500s hisop, hissope, 1500s–1600s hys(s)ope, 1600s–1800s hysop, 1500s– hyssop.
Etymology: < Latin hyssōpus, hyssōpum, < Greek ὕσσωπος, ὕσσωπον, apparently an eastern word, being represented in Hebrew by ēzōb. Old English had (h)ysope, weak feminine, also ysopo indeclinable or with ysopon in oblique cases. The Middle English ysope, isope, are identical with the Old French forms, and continued in use to c1630; the spelling with h appears c1550: compare modern French hysope, hyssope.
