Etymology: < arquebus n. + -ade suffix. In sense 1 after cannonade n. In sense 2 probably after Middle French arquebusade, harquebusade shot fired from an arquebus (1475 as arquebuzaide ; French arquebusade ) < arquebus arquebus n. + -ade -ade suffix. Compare Portuguese arcabuzada gunshot, gunfire (1541), Italian archibugiata gunshot (1565 as archibusata), gunshot wound (a1566).With α. forms compare -ado suffix. With arquebusade-water at sense 3 compare French eau d'arquebusade (1701).
