idyllist1799
1799 W. Taylor in J. W. Robberds Mem. W. Taylor (1843) I. 243 I should not think the English idyllist wise, who made himself a character in such a scene.

Rustic or town life, legends of the gods, and passages of personal experience supply the idyllist with subjects. Generally there is a narrator, and in so far the Idyll is epic; its verse too is the hexameter.
