Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: idio- comb. form, Greek συγκρατικός.
Etymology: < idio- comb. form + Hellenistic Greek συγκρατικός mixed together ( < ancient Greek σύγκρατος closely united, in Hellenistic Greek also mixed together ( < σύν- syn- prefix + -κρατος ( < the stem of κεραννύναι to mix (see crater n.) + -τος , suffix forming verbal adjectives), after ancient Greek συγκεραννύναι to mix together) + -ικός -ic suffix), after idiosyncrasy n.Earlier currency is perhaps implied by idiosyncratically adv., although compare also idiosyncratical adj.
Relating to, of the nature of, or characterized by idiosyncrasy; attributable to individual disposition, susceptibility, or character.
