单词 iatrochemistry
释义

iatrochemistryn.

/ʌɪatrəʊˈkɛmɪstri/
Etymology: < iatro- comb. form + chemistry n., after the family of modern Latin words beginning iatrochem- , iatrochym- (compare chemic n. and adj.). These words appear to have originated in the (translated) work of Paracelsus (d. 1541):1573 I. Dalhemius tr. Paracelsus Chirurgia Magna I. ii. xiii. 21 Verum quia Iatrochymista [so in Opera Omnia (1658), but here printed latrochymista] sum: vtrumqȝ enim scio & Medicinam & chemiam. They afterwards occur in medical works in Latin by other writers, e.g. G. Phædro Opuscula iatro-chemica quatuor (1611); D. Burnet Iatrochymicus, siue de præparatione et compositione medicamentorum chymicorum artificiosa (1616).
The theory or school of thought that existed in the 16th and 17th centuries and regarded medicine and physiology as subjects to be understood in terms of the chemistry of the time (see chemiatric adj. and n.).
