释义

Aromanin.

Brit. /arə(ʊ)ˈmɑːni/, /ɑːrə(ʊ)ˈmɑːni/, U.S. /ˌɛroʊˈmɑni/, /ˌɑroʊˈmɑni/
Forms: 1900s– Armâni, 1900s– Armini, 1900s– Aromâni, 1900s– Aromani, 1900s– Aromânii, 1900s– Aromuni.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Romanian. Partly a borrowing from Vlach. Etymons: Romanian Aromâni; Vlach Armâni.
Etymology: < (i) Romanian Aromâni, (now nonstandard) Aromîni (plural noun), and its etymon (ii) Vlach (Aromanian) Armâni, Armãnji, Aromâni, Aromîni (plural noun), self-designation, probably < a , prosthetic vowel + classical Latin Rōmānī , plural of Rōmānus Roman n.1 Compare Aromanian n., earlier Vlach n., and also Romanian n.The spelling Armãnji of the self-designation follows the orthographic conventions adopted by a symposium held in Bitola, Macedonia, in 1997; these were intended to set a standard for the language, but are far from universally used. The form Armini may reflect a spelling of the Aromanian self-designation with the grapheme î (instead of ã , or of standard Romanian â ) representing the phoneme /ɨ/, with omission of the diacritic in English. In form Aromuni probably after modern Greek Αρωμούνοι: see Aromanian n.).
With plural agreement. The Aromanian-speaking peoples of the southern Balkans, esp. of northern Greece, Albania, Macedonia, and Bulgaria. Cf. Aromanian n. 2.
