单词 humorism
释义

humorismn.

Brit. /ˈhjuːm(ə)rɪz(ə)m/, U.S. /ˈhjuməˌrɪz(ə)m/
Forms: see humour n. and -ism suffix.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: humour n., -ism suffix.
Etymology: < humour n. + -ism suffix, after humorist n.In sense 1 perhaps immediately after Italian umorismo (1795 or earlier in this sense), itself perhaps after French humorisme (1765 or earlier). Quot. 1808 refers to Pietro Moscati's 1792 Italian edition of J. Brown's Elementa Medicinae (1780). In the preface to his edition, Moscati does not use an exact Latin parallel of the English noun. With sense 2a compare German Humorismus (1811 in this sense, 1830 in sense 1); in later use in sense 2a probably partly after Italian umorismo (1879 in this sense).
