单词 hotte
释义

hotten.1

Origin: Of uncertain origin.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. The form would suggest a connection with hot n.2 or its etymon Anglo-Norman hotte , hote , but the meaning would suggest instead a borrowing either < Anglo-Norman and Old French hute hut or < post-classical Latin hutta (see hut n.1).It is unclear whether the following quot. is to be taken as showing the Middle English word (in an otherwise unattested variant form) or an Anglo-Norman parallel:?c1450 in J. T. Fowler Extracts Acct. Rolls Abbey of Durham (1898) I. 239 Pro car. 7 fother meremii a le hote usque ad ortum abbathie..2 s. 4 d..operanti 5 dies apud le hote in le swaryng meremii.
Obsolete.
A shed, a hut.
