hotspurn.adj.

Brit. /ˈhɒtspəː/, U.S. /ˈhɑtˌspər/
Forms: see hot adj. and n.1 and spur n.1
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: hot adj., spur n.1
Etymology: < hot adj. + spur n.1Attested earliest as a surname: see quot. 1403 and note at sense A. 1. In sense A. 2, the pea is so named on account of its early cropping and fast growth.
A. n.
1. A rash or impetuous person. The word first occurs in Harry Hotspur, the nickname of Sir Henry Percy, son of the Earl of Northumberland, who was killed in the rebellion against Henry IV in 1403, although the sense intended is uncertain. Evidence for a literal sense ‘a person who rides with speed and urgency’ is lacking, but cf. hot adj. and n.1 Phrases 3.
