1849 Merry's Museum 18 46 The game of Hot Cockles, or, as the French call it, Hot Hand.
1915 F. H. Cheley & G. C. Baker Camp & Outing Activities iv. 113 (heading) Hot Hand or Hot Cockles. One player stoops over and covers his eyes with his hands. The rest of the group gather around and one hits him a slap with open hand. The object of the game is for the boy who is down to guess who struck him. If he guesses right, that boy takes his place.
