单词 homophilia
释义

homophilian.

Brit. /ˌhəʊməˈfɪlɪə/, /ˌhɒməˈfɪlɪə/, U.S. /ˌhoʊməˈfɪljə/, /ˌhoʊməˈfɪliə/
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: homo- comb. form, -philia comb. form.
Etymology: < homo- comb. form + -philia comb. form, in sense 1 after German Homophilie ( K. G. Heimsoth Hetero- und Homophilie (1924); itself after Homosexualität homosexuality n.) and homophilic adj. Compare also earlier homosexuality n. and homoeroticism n. In sense 2 after homophobia n.2
1. Homosexuality (now somewhat dated in general use). Frequently (chiefly with historical reference) in contexts relating to the homophile movement (see homophile movement n. at homophile n.2 and adj. Compounds). Cf. homophile n.2 1.Homophilia is sometimes used in conscious distinction to homosexuality for the reason that its etymology emphasizes romantic rather than sexual attraction to people of one's own sex. This use is now relatively rare outside historical references to the first phase of the gay rights movement, from its emergence after the Second World War until the late 1960s.
