Etymology: < medieval Latin homoūsiānus, < homoūsius (Jerome), < Greek ὁμοούσιος , ὁμούσιος , < ὁμός same + οὐσία essence, substance: see -an suffix. In modern French homousien. Opposed to heteroousian and homoiousian. The form homoüsian is normal, according to the regular equivalence of Roman ū to Greek ου; but Engl. writers have mostly thought of the Greek letters.
