1952 Nature 6 Dec. 974/1 The formula of hollandite, deduced from that of the psilomelane used in this investigation, is Ba_1·01(Mn,R)₈O₁₆, in good agreement with that previously proposed by Byström and Byström, Ba_{(2 − x)}Mn₈O₁₆, where x is approximately equal to one. It has been suggested that discrete water molecules may be present in hollandite as occupants of vacant sites of otherwise perfect sub-rows.
