Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: astro- comb. form, botany n.
Etymology: < astro- comb. form + botany n. In sense 2 after Russian astrobotanika (G. A. Tixov, 1945 in a session of the Presidium of the Kazakh Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences; 6 March 1946 in an article in the newspaper Kazaxstanskaja pravda: for both dates, see G. A. Tixov Astrobotanika (1949) 3).
Now historical.
1. The (supposed) connection between plants and celestial objects; esp. the practice of harvesting medicinal plants in accordance with astrology.
